The error that occurs most frequently while listing a product on Amazon is probably error 5665. The error occurs when sellers create new Amazon Product listings for products that have not been brand registered yet.

Error code 5665 implies that Amazon needs evidence that you are the brand proprietor of the product before you make a listing under that brand name. Amazon does this so that only verified brand owners can sell their products, thus protecting sellers from listing hijackers.

As per our Amazon coaches, here are some of the ways you can resolve this issue.

Option 1 - Create a Case on Amazon Seller Central Support

Please take note of these steps:

  • Take a few photos of your product and its packaging from different angles showing the brand name, while holding the product in your hand or placing it on a table.
  • Make sure the photos clearly show your brand name.
  • Name your product photos appropriately and save them as JPEG files rather than as PNG.
  • Open a case in your Amazon Seller Central Account mentioning error code 5665.
  • Attach the photos of your product and/or its packaging, to your Amazon Central case.

Option 2 - Create a Product Listing without a Brand Name

Go to Seller Central and create a new product listing.

In the brand name section, enter N/A, NA, generic, TBD, or an abbreviation of your brand name.

If you later want to update your Amazon listing with your brand name, you can open a case in your seller account and submit proof that you are the brand holder.

To avoid this error overall, we recommend that you trademark your brand name and then apply for Amazon's Brand Registry. To speed things up, you can always go through Amazon's IP Accelerator to get your trademark.

If you have tried all the troubleshooting steps and your pictures are fine and you have provided all the necessary documents as well, so please keep in mind that you just need to keep sending them the pictures of the product, the logo attached to the box, zoom in and out at different angles. You can also re-watch one of our Q&As, dated July 5th, about how one of our clients, Jakub, won the Battle and got approved after multiple requests for inspiration.

The key to success, in this case, is we just need to keep trying again and again until it gets approved.

Frequently Asked Questions About 5665 Error

Q: What are the Image Requirements for Resolving the 5665 Error Code on Amazon?

A: The brand name must be permanently affixed on your product or the packaging. These images cannot be computer-generated mockup digital versions. The brand cannot infringe on another brand’s trademark.

Q: What if My Brand Name isn’t Permanently Attached to the Product?

A: Creating a listing for a product using a brand name that isn’t affixed to the product is still possible. Products like jewelry, furniture, and clothing don’t always have the brand name attached so Amazon accepts a picture of a tag with the brand name. The tag should be attached to the product in the image that is submitted.
